SeenBy Privacy Policy

Information you give us

• Phone number. We use your phone number to create your account and sign you in with a one time code sent by text message. In our own database we store only a scrambled (SHA-256 hashed) version of your number, never the number itself. Your number is held by our sign-in provider (Google Firebase Authentication) and is sent to our text message provider (019sms) only to deliver your code.
• Profile details. Your username, display name, optional bio, and profile photo.
• Content you create. Photos you take of your friends, along with any caption or accessibility description you add; comments you write; and reactions (hearts and emoji) you send.
• Your connections. Your friends, friend requests you send or receive, people you follow, and invite codes you create or redeem (including who invited you).

Information created as you use SeenBy

• Activity. A record of activity relevant to you, such as when a friend captures you, reacts, comments, follows you, or accepts a request.
• Notification data. A device token so we can send push notifications, plus your notification preferences.
• Technical data. Standard information our infrastructure provider needs to run the service reliably and securely, such as timestamps, device information, and internet address, handled by Google Firebase on our behalf.

We do not collect your contacts. SeenBy never reads or uploads your phone's address book. We do not use analytics or advertising tracking, and we do not have advertising in the app.

SeenBy asks for permission to use your camera (to capture a friend) and your photo library (to choose an existing photo). We ask permission to send push notifications. You can change these permissions at any time in your device settings. We only access these when you use the related feature.

• To create and run your account and let you sign in.
• To let you capture friends, build profiles together, comment, and react.
• To show content to the right people based on its visibility (see below).
• To send you notifications you have allowed.
• To keep SeenBy safe, including checking images for explicit content.
• To respond to you and provide support.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

SeenBy is built around visibility controls:

• Every photo (a "moment") a friend takes of you starts as Close, meaning it is shown to your friends only.
• Only you, as the subject of a photo, can promote a moment of you to Public, and you can make it Close again at any time.
• Right after a photo is taken there is a short window during which only you and the photographer can see it, so you can remove it before your friends do.

Please remember that people who can see a moment may be able to view or screenshot it. Do not capture or share anything you would not want seen.

To keep SeenBy safe we screen images two ways: your device checks photos for sensitive content using Apple's on-device technology (this happens on your phone and the results are not sent to us), and our servers check uploaded images using Google Cloud Vision. Images detected as explicit are automatically removed.

We share information only with service providers that help us run SeenBy, and only as needed:

• Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging) hosts our accounts, content, and notifications.
• 019sms delivers your sign-in text message.
• Google Cloud Vision checks uploaded images for explicit content.

We may also share information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others. We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising.

Our services run in the United States (Google Cloud, us-central1). If you use SeenBy from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile and content as described below. We may keep limited records where we are required to by law or to resolve disputes.

• Access and update. You can view and edit your profile in the app.
• Content control. You control the visibility of moments of you, and you can remove them.
• Delete your account. You can delete your account from within the app. Deleting your account removes your profile, removes you from your friends' lists, deletes moments where you are the subject, and removes photos where you are the subject from view. Some records may be retained briefly where required by law.
• Notifications. You can turn notifications on or off in your device settings and adjust preferences in the app.

SeenBy is not for children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to use it. Some places require a higher minimum age; where that applies, you must meet it. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used SeenBy, contact us and we will remove the account.

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including hashing phone numbers and sign-in codes and relying on Google Firebase's security. No service can be perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We may update this Policy. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of SeenBy means you accept the updated Policy.
